Hot Bacon Dressing?

Out for lunch the other day. Ordered some fab salad and noticed that it comes with hot bacon dressing…I cringe. Thinking..ugh, is that the one where when it cools off it turns into solid white bacon grease fat? Yep….probably. So I ask for a different dressing – gorgonzola ranch – on the side. I get the salad and it is absolutely fabulous! Realizing quickly that it already has the hot bacon dressing mixed all over it, therefore I leave my gorgonzola ranch untouched.
Then later I have this revelation! I think to myself how I was disappointed in all the saturated fats that I probably consumed when I had that hot bacon dressing. But then I think, wait! So would it have been better to consume a dressing that was full of partially hydrogenated fats and pro-inflammatory oils like soybean oil?
This is the complex issue many of us are in – getting mislead into thinking that the animal fats are the absolute worse for us when really it is those partially hydrogenated trans fats that are the biggest offenders. Next time…I’m just going to insist on having the dressing on the side!
Where to Start?
- by admin
Are you looking to jump in this fall season with some lifestyle changes but not sure where to start? How do you go about making these changes stick? My biggest recommendation are those baby steps! Don’t think the weight will come off overnight or that all of a sudden you will be eating only healthy foods or that you will exercise an hour every day. This might not be where you are headed and that’s ok.
Instead, think of what things you are willing to change and start there first. Find those support people that you can lean on. If you want to have my help on this journey, I will be starting another class for my online weight management program in October. To get on the list contact me at nikki@yourdietdesigner.com.
Until then check out the link as I tell you more about getting started.

Eggs – To Eat or Not To Eat
- by admin
Poor eggs. I feel the need to defend this nutrient dense food. They have had a bad wrap for years only to be topped by the recent Salmonella contamination – they just can’t catch a break!
I am a big fan of eggs. Reason number one – they are a high biological value protein which means we can absorb and use it’s protein very well. And then there’s the lutein, choline, Vitamin B12, selenium, and vitamin D they contain. That’s just to name a few of their many nutrients. These nutrients from eggs protect your heart, brain function and eyes! And yes, you heard me right, I did say heart health. For years, putting eating eggs in the same sentence as heart health was taboo. Seems we lost sight of the big picture when we were even counting how many eggs we ate in products?
So I say go for it! Eat an egg a day if you would like - yolks and all! Research has shown that eating eggs for breakfast might even help you lose weight, with it’s powerful protein to keep you full. Eggs – one of nature’s wholesome foods.
Please keep in mind with the recent Salmonella threat to handle eggs with care, avoid cross-contamination and cook thoroughly.
Runner’s Block
- by admin
So what’s essential for a new runner? Motivation apparently, which I’m still kinda lacking…BUT also a great pair of shoes! And according to Mark, owner of Runner’s Block, my 3-inch heels weren’t the “great pair of shoes” he thought I needed. So a couple steps across this lil’ scanning device and he tells me I’m a “Tweener”! Phew, just a tweener…caught between normal and needing a bit more support. After all these years of wearing inappropriate-but-dang-I-love-them high heels, I was worried he would have worse things to say about my feet. ”Tweener” doesn’t seem too bad. To make this even easier, Mark assigned me a dot color to look for when shopping for my “tweener” feet in his store.
So my next step? Take the info he gave me, along with my colored dot and head into Runner’s Block to pick out a new pair of shoes. Notice how I didn’t say run into Runner’s Block…seriously, one step at a time please!
If you haven’t met Mark yet – head in there and tell him I sent ya! And don’t forget to ask him about the socks that he says will change your life, I know I’m going to!
The Training Begins!
- by admin
I did it. Just registered for my first-ever, never-thought-I’d-do-it, kinda-makes-me-worried 5K run! Looks like the next couple months of my life will be spent training for this event. So let me start by telling you that I do not run. I have always said if you see me running, stop and pick me up because something is definitely wrong.
Times are changing I guess. Through the persuasion of friends and some determination that I am still looking for, I will be running the 5K.
But in all seriousness, this couldn’t have come at a better time for me. These last couple months of summer have kept me busy socializing with friends, resulting in more calories consumed than expended. More socializing and less exercising means added pounds to this waistline. But today, my first day of my new challenge, I am back at it. I’d love to have you join me on my journey – we might surprise each other!
If you don’t want to run at least stay informed as I go through the ups and downs of the next couple months through this blogsite. This week I need to get refocused on my nutrition plan to slim down this waistline again. I’ll let you in on my nutrition plan as it progresses.
Time to break out the tube socks and running shorts, this girl’s got work to do! Oh…and if you want to run with me, register for the Trick or Treat 5K at http://www.allsportcentral.com/
